Bamberg – On the evening of Monday, February 17, an extraordinary accident occurred in Bamberg – which had a much happier ending than could theoretically have been expected. This was because an electrician had a day off.

A heavy truck loaded with wood collided with a house in Bamberg. The police suspect that the driver lost control of the vehicle due to a medical emergency. Both the truck and the building sustained damage. The photo agency news5.de describes the accident: “He veered off the road to the right, knocking down traffic signs and a traffic light. He then breached the fence of a business premises, traveled another 50 meters, and crashed into a building.”
According to initial reports, however, no one except the driver was injured, explained a spokesman for the Upper Franconia police in Bayreuth. The cab of the truck broke through a building wall, but fortunately, there was no one in the office behind it. According to news5.de, the driver was trapped in his cab but was rescued by the fire department; he reportedly suffered minor injuries.

Electrician Avoids Dangerous Accident – Because He Was Off Work
A photographer from dpa learned that the electrician who normally worked there was off that day and thus missed the accident. The city administration began recovering the damaged truck early in the evening. (fhz)
